Our History
Pastor Jim Killion was a 1990 graduate of New Life Bible College at New Life Assembly in Marysville, California under the pastorate of David and Joan Hood. After graduating, he began serving as an assistant pastor in an outreach church called The Potter’s House for 3 years. An evangelist at heart, Pastor Jim began traveling and evangelizing, and followed his evangelistic call into short term mission trips, preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout Mexico for several years. While in bible college, Pastor Jim felt the call to one day pioneer a church. Knowing he was called to pioneer, he and his wife, Rhonda, and two sons, Brandon and Seth, came to Woodland in April of 1997 to pioneer Church On The Rock. They started with only the four of them and two friends, no musical ability, no monetary support, no denomination to rely on, just the call and the passion to see souls saved and lives changed by the power of the gospel. They began their church by inviting people with tracts to their home on Sunday mornings. They held Sunday school for the children in their garage, and used CDs for worship time. Their very first service had 25 people, including themselves! By July the Lord had opened the doors for them to hold night services in the Woodland Lion’s Club on Sundays and Wednesdays. They remained in the Lion’s Club for 18 months and grew to about 50 people. From there they moved to Cottonwood Street in 1999, then to Second Street in July 2001, and more recently into 630 Cottonwood Street. Today, Church On The Rock is established in the community serving 70 children weekly in their children’s church, nearly 50 teenagers in youth night and an abundance of adult ministry in between! Pastor Jim’s vision is to “go on a crusade” and reach the lost for Jesus Christ. With an evangelistic emphasis to reach out into the community, this ministry has had the privilege of praying for thousands of people in the Woodland and surrounding areas and has witnessed changed and healed lives because of the power of Jesus Christ.
