A few weeks back I was driving home after a long day at work. As I was thinking of everything I still needed to do when I got home, my thoughts were interrupted by a song I had not heard in a long time, “Heart of Worship” by Matt Redmond. My overwhelming list of things to do faded away as I listened to each word of the song and was quickly reminded of what worship is really about.
In the Old Testament we read that only the high priest was allowed to enter into the holy of holies, where he could encounter the presence of God, once a year (and only after he had fulfilled all that was required).
How lucky are we that we can worship and enter into his presence anytime we seek Him with our whole heart, but how often do we? How many of us tip toe instead of going all in? Is it a sense of not feeling worthy or wanting to feel vulnerable?
There is something about putting everything else aside, raising your hands in full surrender and God touching our hearts and minds. Psalm 148 calls ALL creation to praise God. The crashing of the ocean’s waves, the streams in the river crashing against the river rocks, the whistling of the wind through the leaves and branches of the trees…that is creation praising God! Luke 19:40 says even the rocks will praise God if we don’t.
I encourage you, the next time you have an opportunity to worship in a church service or when you are alone, press in, remember all He has already done for you and fully enter into His presence! Once you experience His life changing presence anything less will no longer be enough.
I leave you with this thought to ponder… what stops you from a true heart of worship?
Susana and her family have attended Church On The Rock for the past 20 years. She currently serves on the COTR Board and LOVES to camp in their RV, especially on the coast or anywhere near the ocean.
We’d love to hear from you. Use the questions below as a way to share your own story and encourage others in the comments.
What helps you set aside distractions and truly focus on God during worship? Have you ever felt hesitant to worship freely—what held you back? How has worship changed your heart or perspective in a meaningful way?
